Meet Nigeria's About-To-Be First Female CJN.

   If state of affairs work normal, Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar is likely to become the nation's first female Chief Justice (CJN) come 14th July, 2012 when current CJN, Justice Dahiru Musdapher is due for retirement.
   Born on 20th November, 1944, she hails from Kano State. She attended St. George Primary School, Zaria and St. Bartholomew's School, Wusasa, Zaria. She proceeded to Rossholme School for Girls, East Brent, Somerset, England; Reading Technical College, Reading, Berkshire, England. She continued and attended Gibson & Weldon College of Law and was called to the English Bar in absentia in November, 1966. She was later called to the Nigerian Bar on June 26th, 1967.
   Justice Mukhtar's legal career began when she worked as a Pupil State Counsel under the then Northern Nigeria Ministry of Justice in 1967. Since her call to bar, she has worked in various legal establishments to wit;
*  Office of the Legal Draftsman,
*  Interim Common Services Agency,
*  Magistrate Grade 1,
*  North Eastern State Government, 1971,
*  Chief Registrar, Kano State Government Judiciary, 1973,
*  Judge of the High Court, Kano State, 1977-87,
*  Justice of the Court of Appeal, 1987-1993,
*  Presiding Justice of Court of Appeal, 1993-2005,
*  Justice of the Supreme Court, June 2005 till date.
   It's not in contention that Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar is the first female Justice of the Supreme Court.
