Research Reveals Nigeria Ranking 34th Out Of 66 In Civil Justice System.

A research conducted by a team of researchers led by Maurits Barendrecht, professor of law at the Tilburg University, Netherlands, disclosed that Nigeria is the 34th country in the rating of countries with the best civil justice system.

Nigeria sadly scored 0.57 on a scale of 1.0, making it the second in Africa after Ghana (25th), which scored 0.59.


Norway however scored highest among the 66 countries surveyed with 0.81, followed by Germany and Netherland, which both scored 0.79 and were 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Japan- 0.73, the United Kingdom- 0.71 and the United States- 0.63 were 7th, 10th and 21st, respectively.

The report said of the 66 countries, “no one comes close to potential for civil justice, which scale is 1.0.”

Ghana took 1st among the nine countries in the low income category, while Nigeria made 2nd, behind Jordan, which was 1st among the 16 medium-low income countries. The US however, came 22nd in the high income category.

Well, whatever informed these researchers into this conclusion of Nigeria and some other countries like USA anticipated to strike well over the rating labelled them, it's a wake up call on Nigerian judicial sector. Are we retrogressing or progressing?
