Oprah Winfrey is back in the book club business, updated for the digital age.
Her work, "Oprah's Book Club 2.0," which is a joint project of Oprah's OWN network and her O magazine, will commence Monday with Cheryl Strayed's popular memoir "Wild." Along with the traditional paper version, featuring the circular Oprah book club logo, special e-editions will be made available that include Winfrey's comments and a reader's guide.
According to Winfrey in a taped video anouncement yesterday which she published in her site www.oprah.com, she noted that; "This is way different from the old book club. This time it's an interactive, online club for our digital world."
Readers will be able to share opinions through Facebook and Twitter and Winfrey's website.
But sadly enough, as against the mid-1990s when she was at her peak in book sales through her syndicated talk show, since 2011 - when her show ended - sales had fallen off. So, this new club is expected to test whether she still has clout with her reading public, especially now she's got a far smaller audience than she once enjoyed.
