Dawoud told Aswat Masriya that his decision to take to Tahrir and protest against the parliament's dissolution and the constitutional amendments issued by the ruling military council is a personal stance that does not represent the party's official stance. He stressed on his utmost respect to all decisions taken by the liberal Wafd Party who held the biggest bloc in the Islamist-led dissolved parliament.
"Letting the Muslim Brotherhood endure the battle against the ruling military council alone is not in the interest of everyone - we will soon say "Verily I was eaten the day the white bull was eaten!"- the ruling generals must know that all political forces oppose its coup against the legitimacy", Dawoud said.
Head of the party, al-Sayed al-Badawi, had announced the party's respect for the court's ruling to dissolve the parliament, opposing calls to protest.'
